Escape started out as an all caps font that I completed within a couple hours one day, to, as the name expresses, escape the frustration and anger that crop up occasionally as a creative who feels hamstrung by their own thoughts, magnified by a world gone mad.
It was created in a quick, mechanical fashion, with scant a second thought about any design move. It created a surprising expressive result, which can at once be quirky and then become an urgent cry for help (qualities amplified later by the addition of alternates).
I decided to make it a fully developed font, and the lowercase proved more challenging given the thickness I’d used, but such parameters often yield excellent results. In this case, the solution to those riddles, I believe, is evidence of this.
With support for over 70 languages and an accompanying Oblique, I’m excited to see how escape is interpreted by others.
