The Kozuka Mincho typeface family, composed of six different weights to cover various uses ranging from body text composition to headlines, have now been completed as OpenType fonts.
Not simply based on the tradition of the Mincho style, Kozuka Mincho family has a clear and original touch reflecting our current era.
Adobe Originals Latin typefaces are widely used by creative professionals in the fields of publishing, graphic design, and typography. In the development of the Kozuka Mincho typeface family, our goal was to create an original typeface with the high-quality and functionality that is associated with Adobe Originals.
Kozuka Mincho is a Mincho style typeface family that can be used for a wide range of purposes. The EL (Extra Light) weight is effective for small type sizes such as captions and so on. The three weights L (Light), R (Regular), and M (Medium) cover a wide scope of uses from general text typesetting to advertisement copy. Strong and clear expressions are possible with the B (Bold) and H (Heavy) weights. Each weight is carefully designed to achieve excellent typographic quality and printability. Design consistency of glyph shapes according to the standard glyph set is an important element of printing type. We have developed a new systematic typeface design process, and built our own type designing environment so that we can produce Japanese typefaces with consistent and well-balanced glyph shapes.
Still, it is impossible to complete a Japanese typeface without expertise in the art of Japanese traditional typeface design. Masahiko Kozuka, Advisor, who has been involved with many text typeface design projects, supervised, and lead the typeface design project of Kozuka Gothic, and Adobe’s Japanese type design team produced the typeface. New and creative features of Kozuka Mincho are based on the tradition of Japanese typeface design.
