Lascaris was designed by Rolf Noyer, Janus
Lascaris and published by
Lascaris.
Lascaris contains 2 styles and family package options.
Lascaris is a digital rendition of Janus
Lascaris' type of 1494-1496, one of the earliest extant non-Aldine polytonic Greeks. The accompanying Roman, quirky and rich in color, was modeled on humanist types of late 15th century Florentine incunabula and has been extended to cover Central European, Baltic and Turkish character sets.
With OpenType-aware applications (recommended), users can easily access the full set of abbreviations, ligatures and stylistic alternates of the original type, which - like most early Greek faces - was intended to imitate the handwriting of late Byzantine manuscript copyists.
Unfortunately the identity of the punchcutter of this unique Greek face still remains a matter of conjecture.
