If you have visited a national park in the United States, you may find this vintage signage lettering quite familiar. Commonly appearing on trail signs and park restrooms, the letters were typically cut by router into wood, then painted yellow or white against a brown background. For many the design may evoke memories of camping trips, pitching a tent, campfire sing-alongs, burnt marshmallows, and getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.
As the US National Park System seems to be phasing out handmade signs in favor of manufactured aluminum,
MVB Pinecone is now available to preserve this ubiquitous design for posterity.
MVB Pinecone was drawn by Raiden van Bronkhorst based on examples found in Yosemite National Park.
MVB Fonts is a digital type foundry established in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1991 by type designer Mark van Bronkhorst.
